![]() Near the end of last year they removed the lootboxes, as well as a large part of what was supposed to sell those lootboxes: The grind. In the original version the endgame grind really dragged on, you had to defend your fortresses over and over again against enemies that got stronger and stronger, so you either had to grind orcs for ages in order to get yours up to a level where they could withstand the attackers, or you invested some cash to get super strong orcs from lootboxes. They've also put out updated graphics/cinematics as DLC that are free too.Īctually those two points are connected. I bought it day one before we were really aware of the egregious stuff in the shop and decided that because I bought it, I might as well play through and despite the fact that I was incredibly miffed about the corporate greed, I still had to admit it was a well-designed game. The first two were before the more recent changes and I can confidently say that even though I enjoyed the game before, it's better now. I've 100%'d the game twice and working on my third. ![]() If nothing else (especially with the removal of all MTX) it's definitely worth giving a go if you haven't. Put that alongside getting weapons/gear (by defeating more difficult/higher-tier captains/warchiefs/etc), leveling up your skills, sabotaging captains to put those you want in power (or outright destroying them both), and the gameplay loop is really rewarding. I was constantly wanting to do what the game was kinda wanting me to (In regard to recruitment) and I had a blast doing it. The updated Nemesis system is pretty rad too and genuinely creates exactly what it says it does, your nemesis (as well as some determined rivals.) The story is top notch, visuals are still incredible and at least for me, I never found it to be a grind. Personally, I love cranking out the best teams for each area it really does a good amount of skill to acquire the orcs with the specifications you're looking for. Honestly mate, if you're on the fence I would give it a go. But starting from scratch each time is just wayyy too much of a grind for me. If one dies, I mourn and create another in his place. Would have been so much better if I could take them with me to each region. But the fun was gone and it was now just a grind. ![]() I collected a small army of forgettable orcs and took the next fortress without even killing the warchiefs beforehand. I did not realize they wanted you to rinse and repeat the same shit in every region. Dominated that castle and moved on to the next region.Īnd my army didn't come with me. I had fun with this, I spent a lot of time. If the perfect orc didn't exist for the role I had in mind, I got myself killed and "created" powerful orcs until I got the traits I needed. Everyone was completely specialized with hand-picked weapons, unique abilities, and all were synergistic with their teams and war beasts. I spent HOURS putting together an incredible team. The first siege where you build a team and capture the castle was amazing. Finally started SoW a few months ago after having owned it for a year and a half and I got bored halfway through. I absolutely LOVED SoM and beat it twice. ![]() The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games List Please use flair to display what games you’re currently playing, not a punch line, username, tag, URL, or signature.
